A Framework for EDI Data Governance in Supply Chain Organizations
Abstract
In today's complex supply chain landscape, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) plays a vital role in enabling seamless data exchange between organizations. However, the increased reliance on EDI necessitates robust data governance frameworks to ensure data accuracy, security, and compliance across supply chain operations. This paper presents a comprehensive framework for EDI Data Governance tailored to supply chain organizations. The proposed framework addresses the critical aspects of data quality, security, and compliance, providing actionable insights and best practices for effective EDI data management. By leveraging governance policies, process controls, and technology tools, organizations can mitigate risks associated with data inaccuracies and security breaches. The framework emphasizes the need for a centralized data governance team responsible for setting EDI data standards, enforcing data quality rules, and monitoring compliance. Additionally, it outlines strategies for integrating EDI with modern technologies, such as data analytics and machine learning, to enhance data visibility and decision-making across the supply chain. The paper further discusses how a robust EDI Data Governance framework can facilitate regulatory compliance, optimize operational efficiency, and support scalable data-sharing practices. Implementing this framework not only helps organizations build resilient supply chains but also fosters stronger partnerships by ensuring data integrity and trustworthiness. Through practical recommendations and case study insights, this paper aims to equip supply chain organizations with the necessary tools and methodologies to enhance their EDI data governance capabilities, ultimately driving value across the end-to-end supply chain.
